Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat created a new controversy after stating that he was shocked to see a woman in a “Ripped Jeans” running an NGO. He further elaborated that women in ripped jeans are setting a bad example to society, especially to the children.
Last week, Tirath Singh Rawat took oath as the new chief minister of Uttarakhand after the former CM Trivendra Singh Rawat resigned from the post after being proven unpopular among the MLAs.

On Tuesday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat attended a workshop organized by the Uttarakhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights in Dehradun. While addressing the workshop, Tirath Singh Rawat made some comments which landed him into controversy.
Tirath Singh Rawat recalled a meeting he had with a woman on an airplane. Rawat said that she was wearing “Gumboots and ripped jeans” and was with her two kids.
“I was shocked to see a woman wearing gumboots and ripped jeans running an NGO”, Rawat told the audience at the workshop.
“I was concerned about the bad example she was setting for the society, and especially to the young kids at home”, said the Chief Minister.
Tirath Singh Rawat elaborated his remarks by saying that “this kind of woman goes out to meet new people in the society and solve their problems, what kind of message is she giving to the society? What kind of message is she giving to our children at home?”
