A face-to-face collision of two trains in southern Egypt killed at least 32 people on Friday. Health officials said 66 people were injured in the accident. A statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Health said that dozens of ambulance vehicles and relief workers have been dispatched to the scene following the incident in the southern province of Sohag.
In the video of the incident being shown in the local media, the train compartments are seen derailed, inside which the passengers are trapped in the debris.
Some of the victims in these photographs were seen unconscious, while others were bleeding from their bodies. The local people reached the spot and started relief and rescue work first. In Egypt, questions have also been raised about the railway system and the maintenance and management of trains and equipment. According to official figures, in 2017 there were 1793 train accidents across the country.
