Pakistani Cricketers To Play In IPL 2022? Reports Of Ind-Pak T20 Series

Pakistani cricketers’ dream of playing in the IPL may be finally fulfilled in 2022 as rumors of the India-Pakistan bilateral series were reported in the media.

The Pakistani players got their first and the only chance in the first season of Indian Premier League(IPL) way back in 2008. A total of 12 Pakistani players played in the inaugural season of IPL. Since then, it has been a 14-year exile for the Pakistani players. But hopefully the exile might finally be over next year.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) asked to ‘be prepared’ for India-Pakistan bilateral series?

According to a recent article by Geosuper.tv, PCB has been asked to ‘be prepared for a bilateral series between the two countries during this year. An official of the PCB was reported being told to be prepared for the Indo-Pak bilateral T20 series. But when asked by the media, PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani denied the rumors of being approached by any BCCI or having any talks between the BCCI and the PCB. Though the board member reportedly admitted that a bilateral series in the coming season might be on the cards.

Actually, media reports have quoted that India and Pakistan can play 3 match T20 series this year. Since the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in India and Pakistan cricket team will visit India for the tournament, the idea of Pakistani players getting entry in the IPL seems plausible.

No Pakistani cricketer played for Chennai Super Kings, Kings XI Punjab, and Mumbai Indians

The first season of IPL was played in 2008 with 8 teams. A total of 12 Pakistani cricketers played for 5 teams in the tournament. Then Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), and Mumbai Indians (MI) were the only teams that did not include any Pakistani cricketer. While Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) played the most number of Pakistani cricketers – 4 in total. Rajasthan Royals (RR) had 3 Pakistani players, while Delhi Daredevils (DD) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) played 2 players each. Hyderabad-based Deccan Chargers (DC) team included only 1 i.e. Shahid Afridi.

Suryakumar Yadav had garnered praise with his batting in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well as in the domestic cricket leagues and therefore was selected for the Indian team for the five-match T20 series against England. Suryakumar Yadav made his international debut in the second T20 match, but unfortunately, he didn’t get the chance to play even a single ball. At the third T20 match, Rohit Sharma made his return to the squad, and Yadav was ruled out of the playing XI. 

Fans and critics alike were furious after Suryakumar Yadav was omitted from the 3rd T20 match. Even Gautam Gambhir chimed in and slammed Indian team management for dropping Yadav without playing a single ball. 

“Too much rest and rotation of players has created an unwanted problem in the team. We had created a problem of juggling a lot of the players,” said Gambhir.

“Every time there is one or the other change in the playing XI. The England team had figured it out, they play the same batting order throughout,” Gambhir further elaborated.

A brief history of SuryaKumar Yadav

SuryaKumar Yadav was born in Mumbai in the year 1990. Yadav honed his cricket skill while playing in the streets of Mumbai at a very young age.  Yadav made his first-class debut in the Ranji Trophy 2010-2011 season for Mumbai.

Surya Kumar made his IPL debut for the Mumbai Indians for the 2012 season. In 2014, Yadav was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders and in the following season, he made headlines with his exceptional strike-rate. His consistent good performances earned him the designation of KKR’s vice-captain and a regular feature in the playing XI. In 2018, he was bought back by the Mumbai Indians.
