The Department of Science and Technology (DST) has recently funded a clinical trial which will be conducted by theAll India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh, to evaluate whether the chanting of the religious hymn, Gayatri Mantra, will speed up the recovery of the patients suffering from the COVID-19.
The clinical trial will also look at the effect of performing the Yogic practice of Pranayama on the quality and speed of recovery from COVID-19.

The clinical trial will aim to recruit around 20 COVID-19 positive patients displaying “moderate symptoms” and will divide them into two groups of 10 each. One of the groups will be treated with the regular standard COVID-19 procedure while the other group will be subjected to regular sessions of hymns chanting and yogic breathing exercises supervised by a certified yoga instructor, along with the standard treatment.

After a session of two weeks, both the groups will be tested and compared with each other. The comparison will look whether the group who was subjected to the chanting and breathing exercises showed any measurable improvements over the group receiving the standard treatment. The test will especially look at the improved markers for cellular inflammation or cell-injury.
The trial will also evaluate whether the recovery time between the two groups varied significantly and was there any reduction in fatigue or anxiety in the patients.

When asked if the trial had already begun, Dr. Ruchi Dua,pulmonologist and Associate Professor at AIIMS, told the media that the recruitment phase of the trial had begun. Dr. Dua was the one who applied for the funding from the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and will be heading the clinical trial.
The DST gave an open call for applications to seek funding for the projects to evaluate and develop COVID-19 relevant therapies, drugs, and interventions. Dr. Dua was one of the applicants and has been funded with ₹3 lakh for the trial.

Dear Prof Sarkar,
I write to tender my resignation from Ashoka University as University Professor. After a meeting with Founders it has become abundantly clear to me that my association with the University may be considered a political liability. My public writing in support of a politics that tries to honour constitutional values of freedom and equal respect for all citizens, is perceived to carry risks for the university. In the interests of the University I resign. I would request that the resignation take immediate effect. I am teaching one class, and would not like to leave the students stranded. But I think the university can find a solution. I can informally finish out the rest of the classes, if no other solution is found.
It has been a great privilege to get to know the students and several wonderful colleagues at Ashoka. I hope that the institution continues to thrive. I thank you and the Chancellor for your personal kindness over the years of my association with Ashoka.
It is clear it is time for me to leave Ashoka. A liberal university will need a liberal political and social context to flourish. I hope the university will play a role in securing that environment. Nietzsche once said that “no living for truth is possible in a university.” I hope that prophecy does not come true. But in light of the prevailing atmosphere, the Founders and the Administration will require renewed commitment to the values of Ashoka, and new courage to secure Ashoka’s freedom.

The Bharatiya Janata Party MP Dharmapuri Arvind had put the blame on the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Mohammad Jabir Ahmed for inciting the Bhainsa Riots 2021 at Bhainsa town in Nirmala district, Telangana.
After the Bhainsa communal riots 2021, around 600 policemen have been deployed by the state government to avoid any further communal clashes.

“All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Mohammad Jabir Ahmed is the culprit behind the riots. He has been known for grabbing lands from the local Hindus. He was the one who was spreading the communal rumors through social media, and that’s when the communal violence began,”Arvind told the reporters.
“There have been a series of riots in Bhainsa in the previous years. And the reason they happened is that the police department is under political pressure of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and AIMIM,” alleged the BJP MLA.
“More than 10 people were harmed in the most recent communal clash. 2 were gravely harmed and are admitted to a private hospital in Hyderabad,” elaborated Arvind.
“Around 100 people have been arrested by the police for the riots, out of which 50 are Muslims and 50 are Hindus. The same kind of riot occurred in January of last year and even then Hindus were the primary victim of the communal clashes. Hindus’ houses were burned and Hindus vehicles were destroyed and damaged,” added Arvind.

After the two communities clashed on Sunday night, Section 144 was imposed the following day by the Telangana police.

Meanwhile, the National spokesperson of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) had requested the political parties not to make the Bhainsa Riots an issue for political gain.
“CM K Chandrashekhar Rao has always been strict against people spreading communal violence and also against people spreading communal rumors across social media trying to create social disharmony,” TRS spokesperson Krishank told the news reporter.
